Financial Assistance

Downtown Works is a business assistance program designed to match up potential business owners with willing lenders.

Each participant will receive business plan support and professional advice to ensure their long term success in the downtown business district.

The ideal Downtown Works project will include funding from a variety of sources including the applicant, local lenders, the Downtown Works Revolving Loan Fund, and outside economic development programs.

The Downtown Works program is intended to:
  • Help facilitate new business startups
  • Assist with existing business expansion
  • Help with necessary repairs
Program funding is designed to be used in conjunction with a borrower's primary lender as an additional source of funds.
This program will provide a continuous source of funds to help strengthen our downtown community.

  • James E. Cleary Foundation 
  • Downtown Rhinelander, Inc.
Eligible Projects
Eligible projects may include:
  • Business Startup
  • Business Repairs
  • Business Expansion
  • Business Improvements
Low Interest Loans
  • Loans ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 at a fixed rate of 1% to 3% with flexible repayment terms.
  • Loan fee will be 1% with a minimum of $100. All out of pocket costs such as recording fees, etc. are to be paid by the borrower.
Approval Process
  1. Meet to discuss project ideas and to obtain an application.
  2. Contact your proposed lender of choice to discuss project ideas and to obtain credit approval if applicable.
  3. Duplicate lender documents may be used by Downtown Works for loan review. Necessary items may include; business plan, financials, etc. (a list will be provided).

Design Assistance Available
The Downtown Works program, in conjunction with Downtown Rhinelander, Inc., can also provide professional design assistance.
This includes recommendations on appropriate facade renovations including:
  • Paint
  • Signs
  • Windows
  • Awnings
  • Masonry
  • Drawings of proposed work
